Skyfire for Android is a mobile web browser with a focus on social media and entertainment. It handles all types of websites just as well as the more popular mobile browsers while offering enhanced social media integration features and support for Flash video playback.

Mobile Browsing With Better Multimedia Support

Skyfire's top feature is without a doubt its support for Flash. Many other popular mobile browsers have dropped support for Flash content or never had it in the first place. While all of the popular online services now use HTML5 for multimedia content on their mobile-friendly websites, a browser that supports Flash can come in handy at times.

Some websites haven't yet made the move to HTML5 or aren't optimized for mobile browsers. Skyfire can handle Flash video content with ease. It has a built-in video player that pops out of the main interface and lets you watch embedded videos comfortably. Even if you don't use it as your main browser, you can always keep it on your Android phone in case you come across a website that requires a Flash-compatible browser.

One downside of Skyfire for Android is that it doesn't support Silverlight, QuickTime or Windows Media formats for video playback, which would have made it a far more complete multimedia browsing tool.

Social Sharing Made Easy

Social media integration is another area where Skyfire shines. It has a built-in Facebook personalization feature called Fireplace which makes it easier to use the social network's functions on your smartphone.

An instant social sharing button is present too. This feature lets you instantly share what you saw while browsing on a variety of social networking sites. The sharing menu that appears when you press it can be customized to show only the services you use in your preferred order.

See All the Web Has to Offer

For regular browsing, Skyfire has all the standard features you would expect, including bookmarks, history, downloads management and fully customizable security settings aimed at advanced users.

It also has an interesting browsing option that many users found highly useful: the ability to toggle between mobile and desktop modes. It lets you see the full desktop version of a website that serves a different version to mobile users. This can be very beneficial, as some websites offer less content and a limited set of features when accessed through a smartphone. An even more annoying trend is online services requiring mobile users to install their app to use functions that work perfectly well in a web browser, such as downloading files or sending messages. By turning on desktop mode in Skyfire, you can overcome these limitations.
